1. Refined Grains and Sugar
The fact is that people with pimples tend to consume more refined carbohydrates than those with little or no acne.
Some of the foods that are rich in refined carbohydrates include:
- cereal or desserts made with white flour,
- pasta made with white flour,
- sugar-sweetened beverages
- sweeteners such as cane sugar, honey, agape and maple syrup.
There are several studies showing that those people who consume more refined carbohydrates had a 30 percent greater risk of developing acne.
The reasons for this is the effects refined sugars have on blood and insulin levels. Insulin makes androgen hormones more active and increases insulin-like growth factor 1 which later contributes to acne development by making skin cells grow more quickly and also boosting sebum production.
2. Dairy products
There is a very close link between milk products and acne severity. However, it is not yet clear how dairy products such as milk can cause acne. However, there are several proposed theories explaining the bottom line.
One of them argues that milk contains amino acids that stimulate the liver to produce more IGF-1 which is closely linked to the development of acne.
On the other hand, you don’t have to be worried yet because there’s no already established indication that milk can cause acne.
3. Those foods rich in Omega-6 Fats
Talk of the typical western diets which have been closely related to acne development.
The reason for this is because the western diets contains more amount of corn and soy oils which are known to contain high amounts of omega-6 fats. The diet also contains some foods that are rich in Omega-3. The imbalance between these two fatty acids pushes the body into inflammatory state which is known to worsen acne severity.
4. Potato chips
Potato chips that are made from white potatoes are one of the most popular junk foods available today. There are several things that makes them cause acne and several other conditions.
One of these reasons is that they are filled in nasty oils and also lacks some of the most beneficial oils in the body.
The reason why potato chips cause acne is because they contains far too many carbs which produce a fast insulin spike. This is likely to lead to systematic inflammation. The other argument is that the industrial fats that are used in preparing potato chips contains high contents of omega-6.
5. Ice Cream
This type of food maybe one of the worst culprits when it comes to foods that cause pimples. The fact is that ice cream is linked by several studies to bad acne breakouts.
The reason for this is that this product is made up of milk and sugar. We have already discussed the effects of milk and sugar on the skin and hence you can be sure what is awaiting you if you consume ice cream for a longer time.
No wonder ice is at the front page of those foods that cause pimples or over-reactive skin conditions.
Soda is another very common and a very popular cause of pimples in American diets today. Most of the people cannot take a full day without taking soda at one point or the other.
There are several reasons why soda can cause pimples but the most popular is the fact that soda contains fructose which is also known to contain its own problems.
The other fact is that soda is completely devoid of any nutrient.
There are several prior studies that show soda and alcohol are at the same page when it comes to causing skin problems. The sugar found in soda causes insulin spike and later a subsequent crash. This is what make us hungrier to consume it.
I know you like Pizza, right? Now you have to sit down and listen to the most life threatening problems of pizza.
The reality of the matter is that pizza is rich in carbs and dairy. You already know how dairy can shake the stability in the insulin levels. Surprisingly, for this and several other reasons, pizza is one of the worst acne causing foods.
If you don’t want any trouble with acne, then leave pizza entirely or reduce its consumption.
I’m not saying that these are the only foods which causes acne but if you avoid or minimize the consumption of only these 7 foods you’ll see a great improvement.
